Pause for WWW Wednesday 06/03

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking on a World Of Words that simply asks three questions.

With World Book Day being tomorrow and there being an official selection of specially written books to select in exchange for a token (given out at schools, preschools, libraries and other places in the UK) this has admittedly taken a bit of a World Book Day theme!!

What are you currently reading?

After reading so much positive feedback about the World Book Day Token/£1 Book EverDark by Abi Elphinstone especially from K M Crommie (@KCrommie on Twitter) I dived straight into this magical and wondrous story.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished a proof of the awesome Nocturna by Maya Motayne (Hodder & Stoughton) and OH MY it’s brilliant. The style of fantasy writing is ideal for me, it’s in a fantasy world but it’s more like magical realism just in a quasi-historical setting. I may have lost my heart to some characters in this book it’s fabulous and out in May and I’m already so excited to hear that there are more in the works.

I also finished a proof of The Dragon in the Library by Louie Stowell illustrated by Davide Ortu (Nosy Crow) on Sunday and I’m blown away by how awesome this amazing book is. It’s not out til 6th June so a proper review will be closer to time BUT this diverse and inclusive book is perfect for the 7-9 age group and especially for the children who don’t think books are for children like them, for those (especially girls) who can’t sit still and just want to get muddy, and it has MAGIC and DRAGONS!

Today the girls have been enjoying the World Book Day Token/£1 books they chose with their vouchers (thanks to the lovely Forest School lady)

They chose Ten Little Bookworms by Simon Rickerty & Mike Brownlow and Claude in the Spotlight by Alex T Smith both of which Littlefae read to herself with a snack when we got home.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve a small pile of books I need to plough through but I’m feeling I want to step back and read something that begins a classic series maybe The Apprentice Witch or Murder most Unladylike. (Which should I go for??)

With the girls when perusing the World Book Day selections I also picked up Cruella & Cadpig BUT the little independent I popped to did not have the matching original picture book of Dodie Smith’s 101 Dalmations by Peter Bently and Steven Lenton so we ordered that to pick up today!

We will also be reading The World Book Day Monster- Adam & Charlotte Guillain illustrated by Ada Grey and Sharing stories all day!!

Have you read any of these?

Have you read any of the World Book Day Token books?

What are you reading?

    1. I really really loved Nocturna because it wasn’t that brand of high fantasy that I struggle with but is still fantasy, the language is accessible and it is very cinematic, I would love to see this as a film.
