Little Spotlights: Mighty Bitey Creature by Ronda Armitage and Nikki Dyson

After the response to the Top Ten Tuesday- Gems with under 1,000 ratings post was immensely positive, so I have decided to regularly spotlight great older books.

A Mighty Bitey Creature by Ronda Armitage and Nikki Dyson

Age group: Picture Books
Key Words: Cheeky, Bitten Bottoms, Jungle, Funny

Littlefae says:

I like it when they get their bums bitten it’s funny. My favourite is the frog he is so scared he makes everyone else scared too! But the lion is very kind.

Tinyfae says:

He bit his bottom!!!! Poor froggy

Down in the jungle a disturbing phenomenon is occurring, bottoms are being bitten all over the place!! Can the King of the Jungle solve the problem?

This book never fails to evoke hysterics with both the Fae and so this is a book that can cheer us up on a sad or grumpy day. It’s also been a nickname for Tinyfae whilst teething!

It has a definite dash of dark humour with the joy at successive creatures getting bitten on the bum with super duper sharp bitey teeth! Littlefae is especially tickled that the Bush Baby is unrepentant to the end as he is carried off to bed by the Lion being told not to bite bums again whilst the King’s tail is poised between his teeth!

Nikki Dyson’s illustrations are beautiful with incredible depth, detail and textures from the spotting on a banana to the dusty horizon of the savannah. The use of light and the playful characterisations of the animals is delightful!

A Mighty Bitey Creature by Ronda Armitage and Nikki Dyson is published by Walker Books and available online and from bookstores.

We originally received this book free for review elsewhere. This does not affect my opinion and appears here through my own choice with no obligation or fee.
