WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking on a World Of Words that simply asks three questions.

Potkin & Stubbs- Sophie Green Illustrated by Karl Mountford (Piccadilly)

Littlefae chose from my Six for Sunday post that I shall read Potkin & Stubbs a Mystery story involving ghosts and orphans and a wannabe reporter stalking the streets of Peligan City.

It has a film noir rainy Gotham City kind of air with the feeling that a 1940s film star will step out of the shadows in a belted trench coat!

Book cover for skullduggery pleasant

Skullduggery Pleasant – Derek Landy

Not sure about this one, I struggled through it and nearly DNF even though on paper it’s a win with magic and secret underworld societies etc. It’s not that it’s bad I just don’t think it’s me.

We Won An Island – Charlotte Lo

Oh this was a great big hug in a book. Pure unadulterated joy.

The Butterfly Circus – Francesca Armour Chelu

This is just a beautiful book about sisters, a dusting of hope and magic and the family of the circus.

A quest adventure with a young Belle vanishes mid-performance and her sister Tansy is determined to find out what happened, for she is now utterly alone having been foundlings discovered by a kind Circus owner. Travelling across a mystical landscape Tansy finds that her shadow has come alive and with it the memories shadows keep.

Utterly wonderful!

Review coming soon!!

Book cover for I Cosmo

I Cosmo- Charlie Sorosiak

I was lucky enough to receive a proof of I Cosmo from Nosy Crow this week and I am so looking forward to its tale of a family struggling and the dog being the narrator and trying to fix everything 💙

And then I will choose something from my Six for Sunday list in between that and another committed reading.

Littlefae & Tinyfae

Princess Poppy books
This is my collection of Princess Poppy books before the weekend- it has now grown substantially!

I have had the best haul of Princess Poppy original Early Chapter novels and Picture books (Young Corgi not the new Eden Cooper books) from the local charity shops in pristine condition so we are looking forward to working our way through these!!

Have you read any of these?

  1. While I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy Skullduggery Pleasant, I’m also a teensy bit pleased on a selfish level because I’m SO glad it’s not just me who doesn’t like it. Glad you enjoyed We Won An Island, and I liked Potkin and Stubbs.
Very excited about The Butterfly Circus and I, Cosmo- I’m really hoping a copy of the latter may be there for me when I return home! I love Golden retrievers (the fact that I named my blog in their honour is a big clue 😂) so I’ve been excited about it since it was first announced.
The last couple of things I’ve read were Malamander (which I unfortunately didn’t enjoy as much as I’d hoped to- I had very mixed feelings) and Lily’s Just Fine (which was lovely!), I’ve just started Spies in St Petersburg (only read a teeny bit but I like it so far!) And I think my next read will be the Girl You Left Behind but I’m not 100% sure yet. 💜

    1. I can get why Malamander may be in betweeny- I think there’s a lot of room for development that may come in future books and a lot of back story to pack in.
Skulduggery Pleasant is not for me, I can get why people like it but nope it just didn’t float my boat and I ended up doing anything to avoid reading- not as bad as the Book last week which I didn’t name!! Have decided I will go with my gut not because I think I should read!!

    2. The lack of development in places is a big factor in the mixed feelings- it felt like things were being set up for future books, which always bugs me! I really wanted to love it though, so I’m very disappointed that I didn’t and I may give future books a chance; I’ve not decided yet.

    3. Yes I’m a bit wobbly about books like that too, but I usually give the second a chance before I make the judgement of continue or not. I did actually think about putting that in the review … hmm maybe I should have.

  2. Shame you didn’t like Skulduggery Pleasant. I still need to give it a try, but … well, eventually. xD Based on some of the people who recommended it to me (people with vastly different tastes in books), I’m hesitant lol.

I Cosmo sounds really cute. Hope you enjoy. Happy reading!

    Here’s my WWW post.

    1. I think it’s me, I can totally get why the book has appeal, I just think I didn’t completely warm to the style and Skullduggery himself which is pretty much the point!

  3. I’m reading We Won an Island and loving it – it’s such a feel good book! I’ve got I Cosmo as well – it’ll be my next read. It’s the first proof I’ve been sent by a publisher so feel really grateful to have got it. I think I’ll really enjoy The Butterfly Circus – think it’s out 6th June.
