WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking on a World Of Words that simply asks three questions.
What are you currently reading?
The Bad Luck Lighthouse – Nicki Thornton
I have been SO SO SO lucky to get my hands on a copy of this thanks to Erin at My Shelves are Full (who has just moved over to WordPress!!)
I adored The Last Chance Hotel and I’m so excited to find out what happens next to Seth as the world of magic opens up to him
What did you recently finish reading?
The Last Life Of Prince Alastor-Alexandra Bracken
This was a really interesting twist after the Hocus Pocus meets Supernatural with a dash of the snooty New England folkishness & DAR from Gilmore Girls tone of the first book.
Prosper chases a certain someone into the Downstairs and must stop Prince Alastor’s energy from ripping a hole into our world to save theirs from The Void which is devouring the realm as there is no magic left to stop it. This is a proper Labyrinth meets Neverending Story but in the world of demons style quest and is a pretty interesting romp and fun way to round out the first book.

Rooftoppers– Katherine Rundell
This tale of a baby girl found floating in a cello after a shipwreck is lovely . Raised by an eccentric but deeply caring man to be strong, independent and strong willed when threatened with the orphanage they jump a train and ferry to Paris to see if they can follow the one clue left to find her mother.
The Maker Of Monsters – Lorraine Gregory
This is just awesome and so full of depth and meaning exploring what it means to be human and the well boned narrative is breathlessly delivered within a deeply imagined world with hints and flavours of classic horror Frankenstein and The Island Of Doctor Moreau yet still feels wonderfully unique and exciting.

The Wild Folk -Sylvia V Linsteadt
At the moment the only words I have for this is… this book felt like home. 💜
Review pending– once I find the words!
What do you think you’ll read next?
First there is whatever Littlefae’s next selection from the #20BooksOfSummer will be.
Littlefae
I have some lovely new early chapter books and a non-fiction biography to read with Littlefae.
Ready for the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landings with Alex Woolf’s biography of Neil Armstrong with illustrations by George Ermos, Nina Jones and Luisa Uribe.
A 3 stories in 1 combo for new fans of David Robert’s Dirty Bertie by Alan MacDonald which Littlefae has already started enjoying!!
My Babysitter is a Robot by Dave Cousins and Catalina Echeverri about two children’s exasperation at having more efficient babysitting- sort of a fun twist on Batman from Big Hero 6 tattling on you about being able to prove you aren’t eating your vegetables with a screening analysis!
And the wonderful Holly Webb & Sophy Williams with The Loneliest Kitten which is about a kitten who goes in search of company after his beloved owner goes back to school.
I’ve been sent an early copy of The Bad Luck Lighthouse, so that’ll more than likely be my next read. I’m really looking forward to seeing Seth and Nightshade again! I’m currently reading Begone the Raggedy Witches and loving it so far- my heart is in complete tatters thanks to Crow and my nerves are shot courtesy of the hideously creepy witches!! If it keeps up like this it’ll be my second 5 star in a row. The Garden of Lost Secrets is definitely worthy of that because I loved it from start to finish.
After Bad Luck Lighthouse, I’ll probably try and read another library book but I’m not sure yet if I’m honest- I’m so tempted to read something like Paper and Hearts Society or Alex in Wonderland too.
So happy you liked Rooftoppers and Wild Folk when I was partially responsible for you reading them both, and I have the Makers of Monsters on my TBR.

I stayed up way too late a second night in a row to finish The Wild Folk it is so beautiful 💜 my heart is full of magic now.
I have Begone the Raggedy witches in my 20 Books Of Summer so excited to hear its as good as I imagine.
If you liked the Wild Folk you will like the concepts in Maker Of Monsters, I read them back to back and they both share stories of a citadel city in a land torn apart – in Wild Folk by human greed and in Maker by magicians warring- except in Maker the recovery outside the city is only just starting to occur- but thematically human folly and the ‘making a monster of men’ theme was wholly appropriate for the two!!
I would recommend Paper & Hearts only because I’ve read it 💜 and I am so excited to have started Bad Luck Lighthouse!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Agatha Christie Murder Mystery meets a Magical World theme of the The Last Chance Hotel so interested to see what has brought Seth to the Lighthouse!
Rooftoppers was really fun in its Bohemian quirkiness- an experience of a book 💜

It’s gorgeous isn’t it!! It begs the question of is it showing dawn or dusk and what that is suggesting to us about the events of the book!

I’m so so glad you loved The Wild Folk. I know what you mean about finding the words for it though, my reviews for that and book 2 took ages to write (finally posting book 2s tomorrow)

Oh gosh I will want to read book 2 after that!!! No I’m going to need to come back to the World after that one- that is the kind of book that lights my soul- it’s an automatic add to the books I can’t wait for the girls to read- it’s very very special.
