#SixforSunday is hosted by Steph at A Little But A Lot. Every week there is a bookish-themed prompt to inspire 6 choices.
This month focuses on Bookish Wishes and this week the prompt is Characters I want to be friends with.
There’s so many that I could list here that are leading characters but I’m trying to be a little different and focus on some others.
So! I’m following the quote from The Holiday ‘you’ve got to be the leading lady in your own life!’ and choosing best friend, sidekicks or friendly guiding characters who I would love to be like the MC and friends with.
Charley- The Golden Butterfly by Sharon Gosling

Someone who sticks by you thick and thin, knows all your secrets and your flaws and still supports and lifts you. Charley and Luciana have been best friends since infancy and despite her grandmother’s protestations of propriety theirs is a deep heart felt friendship that stands despite class or standing.
Salle- The Apprentice Witch by James Nicol

Someone eager for positive companionship, (not toxic frenemies) someone to rely on but not take advantage of – the recognition that you are as vulnerable as each other creating a mutual support system rather than one-sided.
Salle is Marvellous for Arianwyn, she stops her becoming a recluse and spiralling into herself but also gives her an anchor knowing they will always fit together even with ups and downs.
Faith- The Dragon in the Library Louie Stowell

Someone to geek out about dragons and books with.
Ok so Faith is more of a mentor than a best friend but being a Wizard or Magical Librarian would be fantastic to share a love of books and hope I’m magical enough too!!
Silke- The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart by Stephanie Burgis

Someone to lift, to push boundaries and encourage bravery and pride in oneself.
Silke is dynamic, streetwise and whip smart as Aventurine finds she is someone not to be underestimated but brings much joy and devotion to those she trusts and cares for.
Florence – Amelia Fang Series Laura Ellen Anderson
She’s not a Beast she’s a RARE BREED OF YETI!!! Someone fiercely loyal but incredibly funny and young at heart.
Florence is loyal, funny, brave, and totally underestimated for her size and the fact she’s a yeti. Florence is full of joy and fiercely loyal making her a great counterpoint to when Amelia gets anxious or overly serious to lift her up and see the lighter side of life.
Tingle- The Maker Of Monsters by Lorraine Gregory

I know it’s silly and she’s more of a sidekick but Tingle is pure of heart and just a bundle of joy- sometimes you just need joy in your life.
Tingle is a ‘reject’ monster but Brat loves her anyway. She brings pure love into his life, yes she’s silly and childish sometimes but she is deeply caring and that’s a friendship to be treasured.
Haven’t read all the others yet but definitely agree that Salle is a top class friend. I would have her on my list too.

I also agree that Salle is an excellent example of best friend material! I have literally just finished Wildspark by Vashti Hardy, so I am going to add Edwin – the personifate stoat, as another great friend.

Yes!! It was so hard to reduce it down to 6! Edwin is fabulous and certainly has more of a story to tell.

I haven’t read the books but from your description of the friend’s qualities, I agree with all your selections. What side kicks to share your adventures with. #MMBC
