WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking on a World Of Words that simply asks three questions.
Huge reading week!!!!
What are you currently reading?

The Ingo Chronicles: Ingo by Helen Dunmore (Harper Collins)
Oh I’ve been waiting for Littlefae to pick the mermaid books!!! This is a contemporary Fantasy inspired by the Mermaid of Zennor legend.
What did you recently finish reading?

The Land Of Roar– Jenny MacLachlan & Ben Mantle
A wonderful tale that inspires the imagination to expand and recapture the childlike creativity to imagine whole worlds and populate it with dreams.

Red Moon Rising– Paula Harrison
The tale of a girl who has awoken into her faerie powers late, but just in time to help stop a terrible shadow Fae from trying to destroy her community.

You Won’t Believe this- Adam Baron
The follow up to the hit Boy Underwater, this had me in stitches of laughter at the tenderness and innocence of youth amongst the hard hitting gritty exploration of worrying about an elderly relative, refugee stories, the bullying of a teacher and underfunded schools.

Summer of No Regrets– Kate Mallinder
Love this book, and I’m VERY fussy about YA Contemporary. This is just a beautiful balance of struggles and triumphs, joy and bittersweet and a gorgeous tale of friendship and pushing against the boundaries of fear and self-restraint.

13 Treasures– Michelle Harrison
This is a classic for a reason and I cannot wait to get into the other books in this series of a girl with second sight tormented by the faeries who decides to find out just what is in the woods behind her grandmothers house- which may be a very bad idea.

Begone the Raggedy Witches – Celine Kiernan
Oh this is beautiful, a wonderful exploration of the quest and love in families and the temptation to wrap in cotton wool parents and caregivers can suffer- Mup finds she is the daughter of the heir to a magical kingdom her mother having been secreted away in the mundane world to ‘protect her’ all the while her kingdom fell to the rule of her mother. When the witches take Mup’s dad, the family cross over to take back what is there’s, but the question is whether they will want to go back.

Guardians of the Wild Unicorns– Lindsay Littleson
A great little story about 2 children from a deprived area of Glasgow on a residential trip to the Highlands who become wrapped up in a rescue of the last remaining blessing of unicorns.

Sinclair Mysteries: The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow- Katherine Woodfine
History + Mystery? Sold! This tale with s dash of Poirot meets Mr Selfridge but with a lot of female empowerment is a wonderful romp for me and I’m so excited to follow the adventures of these characters!!
What do you think you’ll read next?
Littlefae has decided that I shall read Deep Water by Little Hersey which will take me to 16 books out of 20 on my 20 Books Of Summer
Really hoping to get hold of a few books though including A Pocketful of Stars by Aisha Bushby 🤞🏻
Wow you’ve read loads over the last week- some I really enjoyed and some I’m really looking forward to reading soon(ish). A Pocketful of Stars is AMAZING, I think you’ll love it! Really hope Littlefae picks In Darkling Wood before your challenge is over, or the Exact Opposite of Okay.

It’s quite good, I’ve just got to the bit where it gets going! A young girls father disappears at Midsummer suspected drowned at sea he shared a name with a man who left his family for a mermaid in Cornish legend, a year later her brother keeps visiting the secret cove near their house and losing track of time, One morning she follows him and sees a strange boy on the rocks and that’s where I’m up to!!

Oooh, the cover for Ingo is so pretty! The cover for Guardians of the Wild Unicorns is really neat, too! I’m going to have to look that one up. You had me at Glasgow and unicorns. :3
Holy cow, 16 out of 20 of your 20 Books of Summer? You’re totally killing it! You’ll definitely be able to make all of your books at this rate. 😉 Way to go!

Discover Kelpies is a small Scottish publishers and are really great- lots of Scottish stories, pride and using the language too.
I’m very proud of my kick to the end with my books of summer, it was bothering me that I wasn’t on track to finish so I’ve put in a concerted effort, but it’s been great as all the books have been brilliant and I’ve really enjoyed them. 💜

I’ll definitely have to look those up! I can always use more Scottish stories.
You did a great job picking them, it seems!

All the books had been recommended most personally so it’s all the great book bloggers and bookish twitter knowledge I have to thank!!

Oh, that’s really handy, isn’t it? I mean, it’s heck on your TBR, especially when you’re trying not to add things to it, but it’s always nice to be fairly confident you’ll like something going in. :3

So true! I have plenty more recommendations that I’ve either acquired but not actively planned to read or those I am planning to get and read ASAP!!

Thank you! 13 Treasures is amazing. I’m making a plan to read the sequels (and a prequel One Wish) in the autumn along with the Murder Most Unladylike series.

Wow – now that’s a good reading week! Well done at getting to 16 books of your 20 Reads of Summer. I’m starting Book 13 but, as I’m going to Florida at the end of next week, I don’t think I’ll get my 20 read – maybe 15/16! I’ve loved loads of the books you’ve mentioned especially The Land of Roar, but I haven’t heard of Ingo.

Ingo was recommended to me when I asked for recommendations of British & Irish folklore especially regional- I’m quite enjoying it.
Oh have a wonderful time in Florida-you could always follow Laura’s (Book Faith’s mum) idea when they went to Florida earlier this year and everyone had books for the queues?

I think I’d like it then! I was thinking I might get a few read on the flights if I can avoid the in-flight entertainment!

Glad you enjoyed You Won’t Believe This. I wasn’t overly sold on Boy Underwater, so haven’t read this one – good to know it passes muster!
I enjoyed Begone but not enough to leap on book 2. I might read it at some point though.
13 Treasures is a definite though!

You won’t believe this is funny and feeling but definitely young in voice- I’m honestly surprised it didn’t have illustrations throughout as it feels that kind of book but longer.

I seem to recall the voice of Boy Underwater feeling young too, but the issues less so. It felt a bit at odds with itself from what I remember.

Totally agree there is a bit of that here but I feel this is dealt from a child perspective of not really getting what’s going on one minute then being far more astute because children sometimes see between the lines sort of thing. I wasn’t comfortable with the themes in Boy Underwater as a mum who has suffered with PND and still do with anxiety but this is a bit more gentle and less sharp if you get what I mean with the fear of grief, family secrets revealed behind a refugee disaster and the anger of wasted opportunities as the ‘toughest’ points

Yeah, there was a lot I struggled to get on with in BU because of its themes too. This sounds better but I probably won’t dash out to read it still.

No it’s a ‘nice’ read if you have the time but it’s not a must read for me though I did have a good giggle throughout.
