Top Ten Tuesday : Series I’m determined to complete

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book blogging initiative hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl with new themes each week.

This weeks theme is Book Characters I’d Love to Be Besties With (submitted by Michelle @ Pink Polka Dot Blog)

So I did this prompt quite recently with Six For Sunday so I don’t know if I’m quite ready to play with that idea again so quickly.

Instead I thought about what’s been bugging me over the last few weeks of taking part in #20BooksOfSummer. During and indeed prior to this I’ve started so many established series and been so excited by them but then I get distracted by other books and end up not continuing the adventure unless it’s a newly published book 2.

I can’t be alone in reading the first in a series and then getting distracted by other new shinies that I forget to continue the series?? I feel that by putting this out in the universe I shall be making a promise to myself to at least try!!

Murder Most Unladylike series – Robin Stevens

Now this one is at the top of the list for a reason. I want to read these so badly as they are my kind of books, historical fiction and crime/mystery- I have the whole series on my shelf waiting to be read.

So I’ve decided that I will read the entire series in a ‘back to school’ reading theme once I complete my #20BooksOfSummer- is anyone interested in reading with me or encouraging me along?

Or at least give me a good name for this self-challenge ☺️

WLTGO series- Maz Evans

Ok so I love Ancient History, Greek Mythology, LOVED Who Let the Gods Out earlier this year and again have the entire series but haven’t picked up the next.. got to change.

Sinclair Mysteries – Katherine Woodfine

Historical Mystery I’m determined to read these because I adored The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow of the praise that the sequel series Taylor & Rose is receiving g from everyone!! Hunting down Jewelled Moth!!

The Cogheart Adventures- Peter Bunzl

Ok this is an odd one out. I’ve read Book 3 but not the previous 2! Got to read them all before the next book drops! I have Cogheart ready.

13 Trilogy + One Wish – Michelle Harrison

Faeries? Changelings? Yes please, loved 13 Treasures now need to find out what’s happening next and I have all the books ready.

Faerie Tribes/ Red Moon Rising Trilogy- Paula Harrison

Love the concept of these faery kingdoms and I think Red Moon Rising was such fun and playful! Need to track down the next two.

The Wild Magic Trilogy- Celine Kiernan

I enjoyed Begone the Raggedy Witches so much for so many reasons and I’m looking forward to returning to the world of Mup and her family.

Ingo Chronicles- Helen Dunmore

I have books 3 &4 not 2 & 3 otherwise I may have carried straight on from Ingo with this Cornwall set contemporary Fantasy!!

Tales from the Chocolate Heart- Stephanie Burgis

I really enjoyed the mash up of Regency style and Fantasy worlds in The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart and I have the Princess with a Dragon Heart ready to read and the third book just came out here so I’m looking forward to reading more.

Scarlet & Ivy- Sophie Cleverly

I read the first and the last in this series (really don’t ask!) and I’m intrigued to find out what on earth happened between the two books!!!

What do you think of my twist?

Have you read the books in these series?

  1. I’m so excited for you to read lmore of lots of these, MMU especially of course but really almost all of them! I’m the opposite way round with Cogheart- I’ve read the first two but haven’t got to Skycircus yet, I’d been putting it off as it was meant to be the last one originally. I also need to read the Little Grey Girl, and I’m looking forward to the 3rd in the trilogy whenever it’s out too!

    1. I really hope you love them all! I feel like I spend so much of my time telling people they should read these books and I LOVE hearing what people think about them! I’ve just realised I forgot to say I’ve still one of the Stephanie Burgis ones to read- I got the last one from the library over the weekend and it’ll very likely be one of my next reads! 💜

    2. I know I’m going to love them because they hit almost all the points I love (obviously not magic!!!) but historical fiction, mystery and social/cultural history are huge loved for me! I’ve got the Princess with a Dragon Heart ready too!!

    3. They are one of my very favourite series (the other being Geek Girl) so I LOVE it when people read them! I’m so excited to hear your thoughts on them all, and if I’m being a pest please just say but if you had time I’d love to hear what you think of them all as you read them!! I’m thinking I might make the Princess who Flew with Dragons my next read depending on when I finish Alex Sparrow because I’ve got hospital on Thursday so I want to be reading something lovely then!

    4. Oh we are at the hospital currently waiting for jabs and a blood test!! You aren’t being a pest I was wondering if anyone would be interested in me posting my thoughts as I read each book!!

    5. If no one else is my DMs are open! I tend to bug people for their thoughts all the time once I hear they’re reading one of them and I always worry it’s annoying but I can’t help myself 😂. I’m at audiology on Thursday- not one of the worst in yerms of what happens but quite unpleasant for other reasons. So I’m thinking the Stephanie Burgis might be a nice read that day!

  2. I love this! I’ve read all of the Maz Evans books – such a great series! I’ve only read Cogheart but have the others. I have the other Stephanie Burgis books – really looking forward to reading them. I so think you’ll love Little Grey Girl. The series I really want to finish is Kieran Larwood’s The Five Realms – loved Podkin. I also need to read Wundersmith as Nevermoor was so good.

  3. You’re definitely not alone in dropping one series when you get distracted by another. I do try to go back to old series after a while. If only we all had more time to read, eh?

    1. There’s some gorgeous MG here, I’m so pleased that I get to read them! I hope that whichever you get hold Of you enjoy them as much as I did and will!! 😊

  4. I feel you with the struggle here. It’s easy to get caught up in the shiny new stuff and forget to finish series. I LOVE the cover for Red Moon Rising! It sounds like a really cute series, too. I remember you saying how impressed you were with the Who Let The Gods Out series, and I hope you get to the rest of them soon.

    1. It’s so difficult to choose between shiny new and carrying on! Red Moon Rising is really fun, and yes I’m looking forward to completing Who Let the Gods Out as I just loved the perfectly apt reimaginings of the Greek Gods!!

  5. Oh I am so with you on this one! I’m dreadful for reading one book in a series then never getting round to the rest! I have so many sequels sitting on my shelf I was debating a sequel September!
I’ll probably still be reading MMU when you start so I’ll read along with you until you overtake me 😂

  6. Good topic! Honestly I am the same way about things. I get distracted by something else all the time and then I get frustrated with myself because WHY DO I HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT DOG FROM UP THAT YELLS SQUIRREL? But, in all sincerity, relatable. That being said, Scarlett & Ivy looks so cute. I know that’s not quite on topic with your post BUT I saw the cover and I’m just like *casually adds to my TBR because pretty cover and I’m shallow* so here we are.
