A tremendous week of reading including a final squeezed in the early hours of this morning thanks to poorly Tinyfae and I couldn’t bear watching Madagascar for the 50th time!!

A Pocketful Of Stars – Aisha Bushby

This is been highly recommended and has been on my most anticipated lists for its twist on timeslip through the concept of gaming allowing the protagonist to explore her mother’s childhood in 1980s Kuwait.

What did you recently finish reading?

I’m on a real reading boost and managed to complete the list and then squeezed in another read!

Ingo by Helen Dunmore

A wonderful modern retelling of the Mermaid Of Zennor legend from the perspective of a young girl whose father disappears one Midsummer.

Deep Water by Lu Hersey

Deeply earthy tale of a girl with a powerful family secret that has been hidden her entire life and those who would seek to destroy it

Seaglass by Eloise Williams

A tender and yet unsettling tale of anger, misunderstandings and the consequences wrapped up in a ghostly Welsh coastal tale

In Darkling Wood by Emma Carroll

Historical fiction at its finest the story of a girl who is left with her estranged grandmother who is locally reviled for wanting to chop down an ancient wood, with a secret and the epistolary tale of a girl writing to her brother after the 1928 Armistice.

The Girl Who Drank The Moon by Kelly Barnhill

Wonderful storycrafting of a fantasy world borne out of a swamp, a town drowning in sorrow and struggle for 500 years, a Witch and a child who is enmagicked by the moon

The Exact Opposite Of Okay- Laura Steven

An absolutely essential read for teenagers and up. A scathing commentary on the social attitudes to females and sexuality in the so called modern world.

Bloom by Nicola Skinner

A unique and wonderful ecological fable about refusing to sit down and conform and the importance of regreening our spaces before we lose the wonder of nature.

The Secret Dragon- Ed Clarke

When a wannabe Scientist who doesn’t make friends easily discovers a Tiny dragon whilst fossil hunting, she struggles with her love of science and the desire to be famous for discovering against her new friend’s encouragement to care for the creature.

Review coming- I finished this book at 3 am whilst Tinyfae was unable to sleep due to pains from the jabs she had at the hospital yesterday (coffeeeeeeee!!!!)

What do you think you’ll read next?

Not sure, being as I’m in England it’s not back to school enough to decide to start my MMU Marathon (catchy or not?- tell me in the comments!!)

So it’s either a Laura Steven celebration with A Girl Called Shameless and And then I turned into a Mermaid (under the name Laura Kirkpatrick) duo.

Or celebrating the wonderful books that Scottish publishers Discover Kelpies keep putting out with The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie

So it’s either starting with Beyond the Odyssey by Maz Evans to read the WLTGO series.

Or I have cracked my second box of books I wish to read; some are sequels, some are earlier books by authors I enjoy and a few other interesting books I’ve not read yet.
