This is such a fun and playful book about a well meaning mouse and a shortcut home that goes spectacularly wrong out of blithe disregard for the facts.
Jonny Lambert’s art is so clever throughout with use layering and texture that reflects descriptions in the text about crocodiles such as ‘knobbly, gnarly back’, ‘pokey, pointy claws’ and so forth as the three friends make their way across the creek and tortoise and rabbit noticing the habitat around them looking suspiciously like crocodiles and not bridges, thorns, vines or logs!!
Great for adjectives, can see this having lots of activities to act out and make art of the different stages in the journey through crocodile creek and is super funny.
Tinyfae likes this one especially to point out what looks like a crocodile and to shout ‘PANIC!!!’ at the appropriate page. We’ve also talked about what might happen after the end of the book which offers great opportunities for creative writing.
I can see this book being popular for many of these reasons but mostly because it’s such a silly but fun adventure story.
This is one of Tinyfae’s favourites.
Let’s All Creep Through Crocodile Creek by Jonny Lambert is published by Little Tiger Press.
