Skeleton Keys: The Unimaginary Friend- Guy Bass Illustrated by Pete Williamson
This is a highly illustrated chapter book from the creator of StitchHead. With illustrations and page decorations throughout this book is a tale of what happens when imaginations come to life and I’m thoroughly looking forward to it.
I mean come on an imaginary friend called the Gorblimey? Such fun!

Clifftoppers: The FireBay Adventure by Fleur Hitchcock
This is a glorious Pocketful Of autumn with creeping cold, bonfire antics and toffee apples mmm. But it’s also the perfect sequel to the delightful Clifftoppers: The Arrowhead Moor Adventure, both are gorgeously contemporary nostalgia with wholesome fun and frolics coupled with problem and crime solving escapades Of Classic Children’s books but with a diverse group of cousins and a firmly modern mindset. Glorious!!!
Review pending (I wanted to take a picture with toffee apples but that may not happen!!)
The Girl who speaks Bear– Sophie Anderson Illustrations by Kathrin Honesta
Gosh I loved this so much, if you haven’t seen my spoiler-free review check it out here. This tale of mythology, identity and finding what matters interspersed with oral storytelling is an intensely beautiful and lyrical return by Anderson and an instant faevorite.
The Magic Place- Chris Wormell
Such a funny and rousing illustrated chapter book from the illustrator of Phillip Pullman’s books nestled betwixt darkness and hope, Clementine is a wonderful character of determination and you hope beyond hope for her to escape the clutches of Aunt and Uncle and forge her way to the Magic Place.
What do you think you’ll read next?
So as it’s September and the start of a new academic year I’m going to read the entire series of Murder Most Unladylike to the recently released Top Marks For Murder. Does anyone want to join me? Or throw their opinions in the ring?
This will be interspersed with other reads such as Floodworld by Tom Huddleston and North Child by Edith Pattou which are next in my list along with The Time Of Green Magic by Hillary McKay and no doubt a slew of other books coming out such as Potkin & Stubbs 2 and Pages & Co 2!
