Michael Rosen has revisited some ideas from his 90s collection to suit the Little Gems collection with dyslexia friendly publisher Barrington Stoke to create two cheeky short fractured fairy tales celebrating how diminutive girls can use their wits to outsmart hungry bears and grumpy kings.

With fabulous illustrations from Ashley King (Littlefae recognised his work from Kaye Umansky’s Witch series) this is a fun and accessible set of stories to entertain and delight.

In Our first tale, Clever Cakes, Masha is kidnapped by a Bear who wants her to cook and clean for him, until she plans to trick him.

She requests to cook some cakes for her granny but the Bear is too smart to let her deliver them and thus escape so he offers to carry them himself planning to eat them anyway. However, she climbs in the basket and hides taunting the Bear with ghostly cakey voices when he attempts to eat the cakes!!

The second tale The Golden Belly Button is where a spoilt and silly King is bored of the same old entertainment so proposes a challenge to the kingdom to tell him the biggest lie, no one can quite come up with the goods, until Peggy has a simple yet audacious idea.
