Max The Detective Cat: The Disappearing Diva by Sarah Todd Taylor Illustrations by Nicola Kinnear (Nosy Crow)
This lovely series is about the adventures of a pampered kitty who is expelled from his home by a haughty aristocrat and finds shelter and a role of Theatre Mouser at the Theatre Royal. Rather appropriate for World Theatre Day!!!
I love the playful narration and the perfect punctuation of illustrations and page decals- I’m loving this gorgeous little book, (even with the sad beginning) and I will be collecting more for when Littlefae to read when she is ready, though I’m sure a read aloud will be on the cards soon too.
Oh and the picture above TOTALLY doesn’t feature the gorgeous turquoise foiled cover!!

The Book of Colours by Sarah Dyer (Templar)
Tinyfae is really enjoying the educational board books at the moment, we’ve been rereading books about shapes, colours and counting. Like her sister did she adores this book by Sarah Dyer which has a different approach to colours.
What did you recently finish reading?
The Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie (Hodder Childrens)
I LOVED this book. I have a review in the works but I HAVE to say this book is just wonderful, authentic, wistful and honest account of the pressures of 21st century adolescence when you just love books and want to be accepted, but still delivered with a tenderness suiting the intended readerships age.
Murder Most Unladylike Robin Stevens (Puffin)
I’ve been wanting to read this now iconic series for ages but not been able to fit it in amongst my reading plans (or Littlefae picked it on free picks) and I’ve really enjoyed it- I adore Hazel’s narration and vulnerability. I will be dropping heavy hints to family that I would love to receive the box set should any gifting occasions arise!!

Daisy 006 and a BIT by Kes Grey and Nick Sharratt (Red Fox)
We had an afternoon OBSESSED with Daisy 006 and a BIT she has asked for more.
She has been a bit of a reluctant independent reader with early chapter books recently but wants the longer more ‘involved’ plots. I hope it leads her into the illustrated young reader books such as Daisy: The Trouble with The Zoo By Kes Grey and Gary Parsons; Cover Illustrations by Nick Sherratt (Red Fox)

Fabio The World’s Greatest Flamingo Detective: Mystery on the Ostrich Express by Laura James and Emily Fox (Bloomsbury)
LittleFae won through a Toppsta giveaway and we are SO excited!!
When we read the last Fabio we did some activities as we read along including analysing the crime scene, suspects and making predictions we revisited at the end. I’d really like to do that again.

Glad you enjoyed Paper and Hearts Society, I’m so excited for that one! And the Murder Most Unladylike books are among my favourites ever so I’m thrilled you enjoyed Hazel and Daisy’s first (murder) case.
I have that Stephanie Burgis one my TBR and have just never got to it so far 🙈 but I really like Apprentice Witch and 13 Treasures.
I’ve just finished the Fire Maker (brilliant!), currently reading a Girl Called Shameless (absolutely AMAZING, even better than the first book in the duology) and I think my next read will most likely be the Unicorn Quest but I may still change my mind…

Good to know I will like the others!! I have not read either Shameless or the first one, contemporary isn’t usually my thing (though Paper & Hearts definitely was worth it!!) but your endorsement may persuade me!!
Unicorn Quest is in my TBR too… so many decisions!!

I definitely recommend them; Laura Steven is brilliant! I’m SO excited for her MG as well, particularly since I’ve been saying for literal years that there seriously aren’t enough mermaid books recently. And I can’t think of any for upper MG other than a Gwyneth Rees series I read when I was younger.
Unicorn Quest looks fab, doesn’t It? I can’t believe I’ve not Gotten to it yet, though that applies to SO many books.

I’m definitely looking forward to Laura’s mermaid books, as you may have noticed I love a bit of magic!!

That colours board book looks good!
I still need to read Murder Most Unladylike from the start too, and Thirteen Wishes. I’m reading The Apprentice Witch at the moment and really enjoying it!

Oh fabulous!! I really enjoyed Murder Most Unladylike, definitely want to read the rest, flavours of mystery genre with a Malory Towers flair with bun breaks and tuck boxes- familiar, nostalgic but thoroughly fresh and exciting too.
What I like about this colours book is it isn’t the expected blue page, green page etc it shows lots of items linked by a theme to explore colour in the real world like food, animals, transport, and differences at night – both my girls have LOVED this one especially the food page
