WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking on a World Of Words that simply asks three questions.
What are you currently reading?
As of typing this I have not selected my next book as I finished my last book about an hour before this!
What did you recently finish reading?
I’ve had a rather slow week. The girls have not been themselves over the weekend, a little overwhelmed by our trip out to see Claire Barker, tired from trick or treating then turning rather poorly so I have not had as much reading time as normal.
Hollow Pike- Juno Dawson
I read this partially as there is to be a television adaptation of the book and it has references to witches and it certainly has a rather British The Craft meets Mean Girls but in rural Yorkshire feel about it! Fantastic story-craft by Juno who really captured the fears, frustrations and isolation of a bullied teenage girl.
Cogheart– Peter Bunzl
This was my first book of Believathon and I’m going to have to get my backside in gear if I’m going to meet this challenge at this rate!!
The steam Punk historical fiction adventure of a young girl whose father has disappeared presumed dead and the perilous machinations of desperate men who are prepared to kill for whatever it was he was hiding.
Mr Penguin and the Catastrophic Cruise- Alex T Smith
I think Alex T Smith is simply marvellous as everything he creates my daughters adore! Mr Penguin is back in anxious collywobbles this time on board the Saucy Sandra where there are whispers and shadowy rendezvous suggesting something terrible is about to happen!
Review coming soon as this book is published November 14th.
The Other Alice – Michelle Harrison
My second prompt of Believathon being for magic. This is a wonderful standalone filled with bookish wonder and imagination as a young writer’s imagination unleashes the characters from her stories into the real world.
What do you think you’ll read next?
Well I have the rest of Believathon to be getting on with BUT I also have other books wanting to be read too!
So it’s between letting Littlefae pick my next prompt (and as I’m typing this during another insomniac night with Tinyfae that’s not going to for a few hours yet!) or going for The Great Brain Robbery by PG Bell, Shadows of Winterspell by Amy Wilson or The Stars at My Window by Onjali Rauf.
Loved Shadows of Winterspell and looking forward to the two others you’re considering next! Have you picked yet? Skycircus is going to be one of my next reads, oddly enough, though I’ll hopefully squeeze at least one in before that as I’m waiting on Rachael finishing North Child first! I think it’ll be the new Jason Reynolds maybe, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve just finished the Places I’ve Cried in Public, which was AMAZING. Easily my fave Holly Bourne since Spinster Club ended

No not yet – I was sent back to bed at 9am as Tinyfae hasn’t been asleep since 1am (poorly baby) and I was awake all night with her and drooping so when Ive had a coffee I will get her to pick!

I love the cover of Hollow Pike! Doesn’t really sound like my sort of book, but the cover sure is attractive. Cogheart sounds really neat, though!
Hope the girls feel better soon! As a parent, it’s always hard when the little ones are sick or feeling off. Did they at least have a good Halloween?
Here’s my WWW post.

We had a good Halloween, Littlefae dressed up as Isadora Moon and Tinyfae as a little witch for trick or treating and they had the best time- It was Tinyfae’s first proper go and she was in her element!!
Hollow Pike is actually really good it’s more psychological with some supernatural bits! And Cogheart is a delight!

Awww that sounds so sweet! Glad to hear they had fun with it, at least. And first proper time is always super exciting.

Oooh, what is Believathon? I’ve already added Cogheart to my TBR. This looks too good to pass up.
Hope everyone is well at your house soon!

Sorry you’re girls have been feeling out of sorts! I definitely want to read The Other Alice. I loved The Great Brain Robbery. I have the other two on my TBR – I just know they’re going to be amazing but I don’t think I’ll get to them until December.

Wow four books in a week when you didn’t have much time to read – How much do you read when you have more time?! 😛 Here’s my WWW post for this week: https://thebookwormchronicles.wordpress.com/2019/11/06/www-wednesday-6th-november-2019/ 🙂

They are quite short ones and Mr Penguin has pictures 😊 which is why I tend to enjoy children’s books and it was only 3 books until 5am this morning!
But yes I admit I’m a very fast reader and that coupled with lower word count means I do fly through them!! ☺️
