We still have a bit to go in Hotel Flamingo thanks to the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and lots of outdoorsy things!
And yes they are still playing Hotel Flamingo with the Sylvanians!
Science You Can Eat – Stefan Gates (DK) *
Littlefae has mostly chosen to dip in and out and enjoying this Book that asks questions such as why do onions make you cry, will eating lots of carrots make me turn orange and what makes popcorn pop!
These kind of books are a faevourite kind of books for her to just peruse and dip in and out of for days.
What did you recently finish reading?
The Star Spun Web, Sinead O’Hart (Stripes)
This SFF meets historical setting of parallel universes in 1940sish vintage Dublin Not Dublin and to terms with not letting who you were dictate who you’re going to be. A fascinating story with so many clever points and different perspectives.

Wildspark – Vashti Hardy (Scholastic)
*whispers* I think I enjoyed this more than Potter. Preorder this awesome awesome book out May 1st and if your lucky in some Waterstones too! Review coming!
High Rise Mystery by Sharna Jackson (Knights Of)
Wow! I know I get excited by books a lot (remember I won’t feature books we didn’t enjoy) but this enthralling mystery is just SO Brilliant and is one a MUST READ, not for the fact it’s being talked about (and trolled *sigh*), not just because of #ReadTheOnePercent (although that’s important too) but because it’s an stonkingly good mystery and such a brilliantly breathless read!! brava Sharna!

Who let the Gods Out? Maz Evans (Chicken House)
As an Ancient History graduate who is a Virgo and adores Mythology, it’s embarrassing that I haven’t read these already! But I adored this hilariously funny (Ode to Janet had me stuffing my fist in my mouth so not to wake the Fae I was laughing so hard) and incredibly heartfelt – and a great theme alternative now the Marvel Cinematic Universe is wrapping up its Phase 1 stories- I need a new saga to get swept into! (The rest of the series MAY have been ordered by page 80 sorry not sorry)

While Gardening and gardening errands over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (Good Friday to Easter Monday) we listened to 3/4 of the Amelia Fang audiobooks thanks to our Library service (we listened to Unicorn Lords to and from the hospital the other week)
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m stuck between continuing to read older books I’ve stockpiled as I’ve been enjoying reading some older books this month and reading some new acquisitions.
but also I currently have two ARCs to read
The Sharp Edge of the Snowflake- Sif Sigmarsdottir (Hodder)*- a YA thriller set between London and Iceland.
Rose Interrupted- Patrice Lawrence (Hodder)* which is Contemporary YA about two teenagers and their mother eagerly but struggling to adjust to everyday modern life in Brixton after escaping a strict religious cult- and in their innocence making mistakes with big consequences.
And soon some new books will be arriving including Malamander by Thomas Taylor (Walker)*
Lily and the Fae 
I have just looked up the sharp edge of a snowflake and it sounds like a really interesting book.

I was called by the YA twist on crime thriller- I love crime fiction but have found the increasing gratuitous gore and misogyny of the crimes jarring so this ‘feminist’ twist is interesting!

I love crime/thriller books. The house on half moon street is one I am currently reading and that has a transgender main character solving the crimes, which I haven’t seen in a crime book before

Thank you! Who Let the Gods out is really fun and silly but actually it’s incredibly educational with the references and framework of Greek mythology, aspects and characterisations! I have the rest on their way!
Star Spun Web was lovely in its difference to my usual reading, it’s sci-fi but not as we know it and with a historical twist- it was compelling!

I read Devoted earlier in the year and that’s an American perspective but I’m very much intrigued by the British perspective offered by Patrice Lawrence, often people think this is an American issue but in my pre-mummy life I taught students whose parents belonged to strict religious groups.

It was my gut reaction whilst reading it, my Potter/Star Wars tingles (good ones) were tingling and then it just became better and better and better when I finished I immediately told my mum it’s better than Potter. Certainly better than Philosopher and Chamber, even more creative and twisty than Azkaban- I am on board with this STEM driven SFF!! Brightstorm is immensely good too- Vashti is genius.
And High Rise is brilliant- it has a 11 year old narrator if you get my drift but she is intelligent and articulate and I think that gives Sharna such clever opportunity with unreliable narrator and witness from a child’s perspective.

It’s funny re-reading HP, I have absolutely loved them and been hooked all over again but whether it’s through being older myself, the age of the books now or simply benefits of re-reading there’s a fair bit I’d be nut picking over if I read and reviewed them today. Still love ’em though!

For me it’s a tingle/resonance of magic/coming home/Je ne sais quoi about Potter, Wildspark turned it up to eleven.
